Project Overview

Walmer by Salta is a high-end residential apartment development located on the edge of the Yarra River and parklands, offering a rare balance of natural outlooks and inner-city convenience. Designed by Bates Smart, the project was conceived as a refined, luxury offering for discerning downsizers and younger professionals seeking quality, calm and considered design within a bustling urban context.

DMP Creative was engaged from the very beginning of the project and remained involved through to completion and occupation, delivering a cohesive design language across marketing, sales and built environments.

Scope of Works

This was a multi-stage, long-term collaboration spanning the full lifecycle of the development:

Styling of 3D renders for early marketing campaigns

  • Furnishing and styling of the sales display, including:

    • reception and sales suite

    • gallery spaces

    • a full-scale apartment prototype

  • Post-construction styling and part furnishing of:

    • common areas

    • selected display apartments

The brief required a seamless translation of brand, architecture and atmosphere across both digital and physical spaces, often under shifting timelines and evolving construction constraints.

Early Vision & Marketing

Design Story

The creative direction for Walmer was strongly informed by the building’s original brand identity, which drew heavily on Brooke Holm’s photographic artworks. These works established a visual language grounded in natural elements, warmth and restraint, and became a key reference point for the interiors.

This sensibility was carefully integrated with Bates Smart’s architectural intent, resulting in spaces that feel sleek and luxurious without tipping into formality. A muted, earthy palette was layered with texture and materiality to create environments that feel calm, considered and timeless, while still speaking to the energy of inner-city Richmond.

A strong emphasis was placed on celebrating Australian design and craftsmanship. Furniture, lighting and decorative elements by Christopher Boots, Kett Furniture, Sophie Moran Ceramics, Jardan, Tait and Armadillo Rugs were curated to reinforce a sense of quality and authenticity, appealing to a design-literate audience without alienating broader buyer groups.

Challenges & Approach

Walmer was delivered under complex and often compressed timeframes, with overlapping demands from marketing, sales and construction. Display spaces needed to open before the building was fully complete, while later stages required styling and installation to occur alongside final construction works and resident move-ins.

Budget constraints were also a constant consideration, with high expectations for finish, longevity and impact. The project required careful prioritisation, adaptability and clear communication across multiple stakeholders to maintain consistency and quality at every stage.

This was a project that demanded calm under pressure, flexibility in approach and the ability to hold a clear creative vision while navigating real-world constraints.

Sales & Display Spaces

Why This Project Matters

Walmer is a strong example of DMP Creative’s ability to understand, interpret and implement a creative brand across all facets of a large-scale development. From early marketing imagery through to finished, occupied spaces, the project demonstrates a fluent and consistent design language carried across years, formats and phases.

It also reflects a deep understanding of target audiences and marketing considerations, translating aspiration into environments that feel desirable, liveable and commercially effective without compromising design integrity.
